Mumbai: Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan says his upcoming film My Name is Khan, which pairs him with co-actor Kajol after an on-screen hiatus of eight years, does not have terrorism as its main theme and is mostly a love story.
"This film is first and foremost a love story. In fact this is one of the nicest love stories I have ever participated in – and I have participated in some of the best love stories that have been made here," Khan told reporters on Wednesday night after the first look of the film was released.
Directed by Karan Johar, My Name is Khan tells the story of an autistic man Rizwan Khan (played by Shah Rukh Khan), who is caught in the aftermath of the September 11 militant attacks in the United States.
Khan, co-actor Kajol and Johar are teaming up after more than eight years, in what has been billed as one of the biggest releases to come out of Bollywood in a while.
The film is widely anticipated by fans of Khan and Kajol, whose great on-screen chemistry have helped deliver several hits in the past.
Fox Star Studios has signed a deal to finance and distribute the film, which unconfirmed media reports have pegged at $21 million.
However, both Johar and Fox have refused to confirm the figure, which, if true would be the highest ever for a Bollywood film.
"This film will be a step towards Indian cinema reaching worldwide," Khan said. India, home to the world's most prolific movie industry, has long tried to draw wider audiences, including by forging ventures with Hollywood studios looking to offset sluggish box-office sales with new markets and cheaper production costs.
My Name is Khan releases worldwide on February 12, 2010.

"We have to reach early," I told a friend. "Or else we will never find a place to sit."
Sure enough, even though we reached a good 45 minutes before the actual event, the seats in the first row were occupied.
We contented ourselves by sitting in the second row and discussing what was most likely a "historic moment" - at least for us film journalists - actors Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan on the same podium, speaking in one voice, as "friends".
Keep in mind that these stars were once taking pot shots at each other almost daily in the media, so this sudden camaraderie was somewhat of a bolt from the blue. No wonder then that pretty much the entire press corps was in attendance, and even before the two Khans entered, their agenda was being dissected.
"They are already in the building.. they are discussing what should be said.. Aamir was the one who initiated the talks," were some of the whispers one heard.
Given the anticipation was so great, when the two stars did appear on stage, almost every eye in the room was on them, trying to read between the lines.
Although the topic at hand was the ongoing tussle between producers and exhibitors, it was obvious the real story was the two Khans together on one podium, and each and every action was up for scrutiny.
Why was Shah Rukh looking into space when Aamir was talking? Did Aamir forget to mention any SRK films when he talked about the blockbusters of the decade? Was this a put-on act for the sake of the cameras?
Yes, I know, journalists have an overactive imagination - it's a professional hazard.
Every time, the two Khans even leaned towards each other, a hundred cameras worked overtime, prompting the evening's moderator, filmmaker Karan Johar to remark - "We promise you they will both hug at the end of the conference." A Mumbai tabloid went one step ahead and asked a well known psychologist to "decode" the body language of the two stars - and the good doctor concluded that it was "an act." But Shah Rukh Khan said he had "no problems" sitting on the same dais, same car, same house and working in the same film as Aamir, and said all talk of their rivalry was a "non-issue".
Aamir, for his part, said (jokingly, we hope) - "I think we should get out the boxing gloves now."
I think I am going to take that with a pinch of salt. What about you? Do you think these two megastars have actually kissed and made up?

It has been sometime since we saw Akshay Kumar in a leading man's role sans any traces of comedy. Agreed that he conquered the favour of the film lovers through his high-impact humour roles coupled with his brilliant comic timing starting his ascend to the top rank with 'Hera Pheri'
But it's high time the hunk did a role having the same effect as his wonderfully written character in Tanuja Chandra's 'Sangrash' which was highly appreciated. The trashing of 'Chandni Chowk To China' by the critics as well as film lovers due to mundane and clichéd scenes seems to have happened for good. The debacle of the movie at the box office brought back the spotlight on some of the earlier works of Akshay like in 'Dhadkan', and all of his 'Khiladi' movies. It is told that every downfall is in fact a path leading to an even bigger success than previously experienced. The time has not yet come to really decide whether the forthcoming 'Tasveer' canned by Nagesh Kukunoor is going to be a surprise winner. Going by the released promo videos and the nucleus of the psychological thriller, there is a feeling that it is going to keep the viewers on the edge of the seats. In 'Tasveer' Akshay plays a man capable of unearthing others heavily guarded secrets. The supernatural thriller even after having Akshay in the lead role has not evoked any expectations or hype till now. This may be because the entire feel and content of the flick is totally different from all the previous movies done by Akshay. The whole world knows that 'Tasveer' will be releasing in theatres on March 3 and still there s not much hype for 'Tasveer' as the promotional tactics have still not been flagged off. It seems that film buffs have forgotten that the action star is not only an expert in doing the most risky action sequences and tickling the funny bones, but also can do complete justice to a very somber character. So folks get ready to watch Akshay in a new avtar as 'Tasveer' will be unveiled in a couple of weeks from now!
