Amazon India to expand same-day delivery capability with 5 new warehouses
Customers who shop on online retailer Amazon can expect faster shipping times and greater availability shortly as the e-commerce player plans on opening five new fulfilment centres in India.
Fulfilment centres are giant warehouses that help Amazon and other online retailers store many products, ship them and handle returns quickly. The company’s first such centre was set up in Mumbai in 2012.
The online retailer, on Monday, said that it would nearly double its total storage capacity to over half million square feet.
“This investment is part of Amazon’s continued and relentless focus on enhancing online shopping experience for consumers in India and enabling small and medium businesses to get a scalable and national platform using Fulfilment by Amazon,” a company statement said.
The new centres will be opened in Delhi, Chennai, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Tauru (outskirts of Gurgaon). Customers in these areas will soon be eligible for Amazon’s next-day and same-day guaranteed delivery services.
