NEW DELHI: In an upward revision of natural gas prices by 7%, Indraprastha GasBSE 0.12 % Limited (IGL), the sole city gas distributor (CGD) in the national capital region, increased the price of compressed natural gas (CNG) and piped natural gas (PNG). After decreasing gas prices by 30% in February, when the government had announced uniform allocation of gas to all CGDs, IGLBSE 0.12 % increased the CNG price by Rs 2.95 per kg in Delhi and Rs 3.35 each in Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad.”We are constrained to revise the retail price of CNG and PNG mainly due to the increase in the overall input cost of natural gas being sourced by us. Since there has been no change in the domestic gas allocation to IGL and it is expected to remain at the existing level in the near future as well, the increase in gas consumption is being met through higher priced imported R-LNG,” said the IGL spokesperson. The new consumer price of CNG is Rs 38.15 per kg in Delhi and Rs 43.50 per kg each in Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad. It would be effective from midnight of May 2 or 3. The new consumer price of PNG to Delhi households is also being revised from Rs 24.50 per standard cubic meters (scm) to Rs 25.50 per scm. The applicable price of domestic PNG in Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad households would be Rs 27.30 per scm. In January, the government allocated cheaper domestic gas to all CGDs across the country. IGL, which sourced around 80% of its requirements from domestic sources, passed on the benefit of 100% allocation to its customers. But, as the domestic gas price increased in April, the company decided to pass the cost on to consumer. “There has also been an increase in the operating expenses, which includes an increase in minimum wages announced by the government as well as increase in power tariff,” said the IGL spokesperson. IGL supplies PNG to over 4,60,000 households in Delhi and NCR towns and meets the fuel requirement of over 7.5 lakh vehicles running on CNG.
