BHUBANESWAR: The Talcher Fertilizer Plant, which has been closed since 2002, will be revived by 2019 with an investment of Rs 9,000 crore. Union petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan and chemical and fertilizer minister Ananth Kumar reviewed the project in New Delhi on Friday.

Fertiliser Corporation of India Ltd (FCIL) had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers (RCF), Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) and Coal Indian Limited (CIL) in September last year for revival of this plant, official sources said.

According to an official release, two joint ventures would be created among these four agencies for the revival plan.

“The Centre has been reviewing the revival programme of the plant each month to ensure its completion on time. The detailed project report (DPR) for the revival programme will be prepared by November. Thereafter, budget provision would be made,” Pradhan told reporters after the review meeting.

Post revival, the plant would generate around 1 lakh metric tonne of urea and 3.3 lakh liters of ammonium nitrate per annum.
