The Allahbad high court on Friday ordered the demolition of two 40-storeyed residential towers in Noida for flouting norms and asked real estate firm Supertech to return booking amounts of depositors with interest.

The towers, with 857 apartments — of which 627 were booked, were built by the realtor in Noida’s Sector 93-A and formed a part of its residential project named Emerald Court.

The court directed the Noida authority to demolish the two towers within three months and asked the realtor to return the booking amounts, with 14% interest, to the 627 home-buyers. It also ordered for FIRs to be lodged against concerned Noida officials for allowing Supertech to build the towers without permission.

In 2006, the Noida authority had approved 14 eleven-storey towers for the Emerald project. By 200810, 500 families occupied these 14 towers. In 2009, the realtor started constructing three more towers.

The residents of Emerald Court objected to two towers that were being constructed on land reserved for a children’s park. They eventually filed a case with the HC in 2012 after the Noida authority repeatedly failed to take action.

CMD of Supertech Group RK Arora said the construction was legal and they had not received a demolition order. Noida authority chairman Rama Raman refused to comment.
