OVERVIEW

DBS Bank is a Singapore-based bank, and is known to be one of the largest banks to exist in South East Asian region by asset value. The government of Singapore established the DBS Bank in the year 1968, and it was primarily aimed at providing development oriented financial services. As of April 2009, the bank is actively operational in 16 markets, and has been listed on the Singapore Exchange (SGX). The bank claims “AA-“ and “Aa1” credit ratings, which speak for the credibility it enjoys in terms of customer and agency evaluation.

The bank has a presence across 200 branches spread across 50 cities, boasting of more than 1,000 ATM installations and 14,000 employees working for it.

Global Presence
Singapore and Hong Kong are the key areas of operation for DBS Bank, as both the countries contributed for 65% and 28% of its net profit earned in the year 2007 respectively. Apart from Singapore and Hong Kong, DBS Bank has carved out strong presence for itself in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, collectively known as the Greater China region.

DBS Bank was the first Singapore bank which incorporated in China in the year 2007, and is present at 11 locations within the country as of April 2009.

Presence in India
DBS Bank began its operations in India in the year 1994, establishing a representative office in Mumbai, which was converted to a fully operational branch in the month of March 1995. In the year 2005 a yet another branch was opened in New Delhi, and the same year it went into an agreement with Cholamandalam Investments and Finance Company Limited to launch the Cholamandalam DBS Joint Venture.

As of April 2009, DBS Bank is present across 6 cities in India, with its branches located in Mumbai, Bengaluru or Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, New Delhi and Pune. The bank offers a host of banking and financial services to its customers in India, which fall under Corporate Banking, Enterprise Banking, Financial Institution Banking and Personal Banking services comprising of Wealth Management, NRI Services, Savings & Deposits and DBS Treasures Priority Banking.
