BENGALURU: The most-coveted management course in the country just got costlier. IIM-Bangalore has increased the fees for its flagship post-graduate programme (PGP) from Rs 17 lakh to Rs 18.7 lakh. With this, IIM-B will remain the costliest among its premier sister institutions.

The decision to increase the fees was made at a meeting of the board of governors on Wednesday. The fees have been increased after two years, which has been the practice at the 41 year-old institute.

IIM-Ahmedabad has also increased the fees for three of its programmes for the next academic year. The 11% hike means fees for the three PGPs will be Rs 18.5 lakh (up from Rs 16.6 lakh). The current fees at IIM-Calcutta, IIM-Kozhikode and IIM-Lucknow are Rs 16.2 lakh, Rs 13 lakh and Rs 10.8 lakh, respectively. These institutes have yet not announced any increase in fees for the next year.

There will, however, be no increase in the intake at IIM-B, which is trying to open a second campus. It is yet to get possession of land from the Karnataka government. “An increase in intake would mean more infrastructure and faculty,” a source said. “It would not be feasible now.”
