New Delhi – The second edition of the “Northeast Fashion Fest”, which showcased the creativity of budding fashion designers of the region, was recently held in Delhi.

It also served as a platform to promote handloom traditions and textiles of the northeast.
The four-day-long North East Fashion Fest was organized by the National Textile Corporation in association with the Union Home Ministry, DONER Ministry, Assam Government and the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development.

The main idea behind the event was to promote sericulture, handlooms and designs of the northeast, and give a chance to the local talent to interact with potential partners and market.

As part of the event, an exhibition showcasing the rich handloom and handcraft products of the northeast was organized.
Many visitors appreciated the products on display.  Young Assamese boys and girls performed a cultural dance in their colorful traditional attire.

“It’s very good to come here and showcase our rich handloom and handicrafts. It’s a very good exhibition; we also sell our products so I hope to come again,” said Tutumoni Talukdar, exhibitor, AssamDuring the event, talented designers presented traditional designs blended with contemporary styles. Models walked down the ramp in creations of designers from the northeast.  Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi walked the ramp in support of the effort.

“This show is all about designing. It’s also giving platform to the weavers of the northeast. I think it’s a good opportunity for the people of northeast. I hope they keep doing such things in other big cities ,” said Esther Zamir, a model from Nagaland
During the event, Alobo Naga and a band from Nagaland enthralled the audience. A huge crowd enjoyed the performance and sang along with them.

“Our main objective is to make the rest of India know about northeast and culture of northeast and to know about the rich fabric that  comes  from northeast, which is very fine. Effort is also made to make the rest of India, understand the music of the northeast and make them understand the talent of the people,” said Mayank Jha, COO and co-founder, BASICS concept marketing.

Such events create bridges of understanding between the northeast and rest of the country.
