Kolkata – Youngsters here will be encouraged to use art to campaign for the environment, courtesy a new venture launched Monday.

Initiated by Nokia India and German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), the ‘Create To Inspire’ fellowship will channel artistic talents of the youth to build campaigns that would boost others to adopt “green” habits.

According to the organisers, under the programme, fellowships will offered to youngsters in the age group of 18 to 25 years and 50 youth shall be selected and mentored by r! enowned artists from various creative fields.

Thereafter, the se! lected fellows will work under the guidance of the mentors on inspiring people to take environmental action through music, dance, theatre, film, photography, vocal projects and public art installations.

The campaigns will press for the “judicious consumption and management of water, energy, transport and e-waste”.

The programme will also reach out to over 200 schools in two years through the city-based NGO PATH Welfare Society.
