Recipe Directory    Rice    :: PULI SATHAM ::

Tasty tamarind rice.PULI SATHAM

Preparation Time : 15-20 minutes

Cooking Time : 20-25 minutes

Rice (long grain) 1 cup
Water 2 1/2 cups
Tamarind pulp 3 tablespoons
Whole dry red chillies 2
Onion 1 large
Ghee 1 tablespoon
Mustard seeds 1 teaspoon
Fenugreek seeds (methi dana) 1 teaspoon
Tomato puree 1 teaspoon
Salt to taste
Bring the water to boil in a pan, meanwhile wash the rice thoroughly and drain. When the water starts to boil, add the rice and salt to taste. Cook for 10 –15 minutes or till the rice is done, drain off extra water if any. Put it back over the heat and cook for 3-5 minutes. Halve the dried red chillies and discard the seeds. Peel and chop the onion. Heat ghee in thick bottom pan and fry the onion till golden brown, then add mustard seeds. When they start to crackle add the chillies, the fenugreek seeds, the tamarind pulp and the tomato puree. Bring top boil and then stir in the cooked rice gently. Serve hot.
