London – Three Egyptian activists from the 2011 uprising that ousted President Hosni Mubarak have been sentenced to three years in jail.

High-profile democracy campaigners Ahmed Maher, Ahmed Douma and Mohamed Adel were found guilty of organizing an unauthorized protest and attacking police officers, the BBC reports.

According to the report, they have been sentenced to three years’ hard labour and a 7,000 dollars fine each.

The trio was arrested after protesting in November over a new controversial law that restricts public demonstrations, the report added.

Maher and Adel were founding members of the 6 April Youth Movement, which led protests to remove Mubarak in 2011.
