London – Two weeks after the record-breaking Typhoon Haiyan hit the central islands of Philippines, its death toll has been estimated at 5,209, officials said.

The Philippines National Disaster Agency has declared Haiyan as the deadliest natural disaster in the country’s history, the BBC reports.

According to the report, the number of dead reported in the city of Tacloban was likely to go up.

Parts of low-lying islands were completely flattened when winds of up to 270 kilometer per hour hit the central Philippines on November 8.

Executive Director of the Philippines’ National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Eduardo del Rosario said that more than four million people were displaced by the storm and around 1,600 people are still missing.
