Normal flight operations have resumed at St. John’s International Airport

Earlier story:After the airport authority was notified of a bomb threat on Air Canada flight 143, which was set to leave for Ottawa at 6:50 p.m., the aircraft and the departures lounge were evacuated and all incoming aircraft were directed away from the terminal.

“Terminal Blding is presently not accepting aircraft due to a bomb threat.Check with your airline for flt status. More info to follow #yyt,” the airport tweeted at 8:25 p.m.

A news release was posted by the authority shortly after the tweet.

“The Airport Authority has activated its Emergency Control Centre and its emergency response team, along with the RNC, RCMP, St. John’s Regional Fire Department and Eastern Health have responded to the situation,” the news release stated.

The airport tweeted that some flights were diverted and others had been cancelled, and urged passengers to check the status of their flights before going to the airport.

Reports suggested normal operations would resume before midnight.
