NALGONDA: A six-year-old boy studying in Class I of a private school died on Sunday after he was allegedly beaten up by his class teacher on Saturday for not speaking in English. The incident took place at Tirumalagiri village of Anumula mandal in Nalgonda district. A heavy posse of policemen was posted in the village as scores of people laid siege to the private school demanding action against the management.

Senior police officials rushed to the village even as the angry parents and villagers kept the body of the tribal boy, identified as Chandu, outside the school main gate, and refused to move out until the arrest of the school principal and the class teacher.

According to reports, Chandu was severely beaten up by his teacher Sumathi on Saturday. She allegedly banged Chandu’s head against the wall resulting in internal head injuries. The boy fell ill soon after returning home and his condition deteriorated in the night. He was admitted to a hospital in Hyderabad where he died in the early hours of Sunday.

“The teacher deserves nothing less than life imprisonment. She hit the boy’s head against the wall for not speaking in English. As the boy was talking in Telugu, the teacher became angry and severely beat him up,” said Child Rights Protection Committee president Anuradha Rao. She demanded de-recognition of the school and compensation to the family of the victim.
