RAIPUR: In a brazen incident, a senior police officer who was suspended on Monday over brawl with a local court judge, shot his wife and injured two kids before killing himself at his official residence in Bastar’s Jagdalpur city early on Tuesday.

While the city superintendent of police Devnarayan Patel, 40, and his wife Pratima are dead, the two kids who were severely injured were sent to Raipur hospital on Tuesday morning.

His son Aryan, 6 and daughter Pooja, 11, have also sustained bullet injuries, police said adding that condition of Pooja remains critical and the kids may undergo surgery.

Police said that Patel was suspended after he indulged in a tussle with additional district judge A Toppo who was reportedly drunk while driving. Patel must have then objected over it which resulted in a heated argument after which Patel had allegedly beaten the ADJ.

Toppo had complained at court against Patel and police department immediately taking action against him, suspended him.

Following primary investigation Patel was suspended which possibly was the reason that upset him and drove the CSP committing suicide and killing his wife.

No suicide note has been recovered from the spot yet and further investigations were underway and collector Ankit Anand has ordered a magisterial investigation in the case. Jagdalpur additional district magistrate Chandan Kumar has been given the charge to probe the case.

However, Patel’s career record was accorded with Gallantry Award for fighting courageously against Maoists.
