Yoga guru Baba Ramdev can do yoga in Delhi, but not politics : Election Commission

New Delhi – A day after he shared the political platform with top BJP leaders-Narendra Modi, Rajnath Singh and Arun Jaitley, yoga guru Baba Ramdev came in for some strong criticism by the Congress party. “It is shocking that someone

who is facing a number of criminal cases on various counts is seen with the BJP’s top leadership,” said party spokesperson Sanjay Jha.

At the public meeting held to celebrate his achievements Ramdev was lavish in showering praise on Modi and equally vitriolic in attacking Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. He said, “The Congress points finger at Modi but they have forgotten 1984 riots and 1947 partition… If Narendra Modi is ‘maut ka saudagar’ then Nehru is ‘mahasaudagar’.

He also came up with his well-known prescription for the economy including the unearthing of the black money.

In response, Modi was equally kind to yoga guru. While praising Ramdev’s public awareness efforts he said, “This will be the first election since Independence which will destroy all traditions. Usually polls are fought by political parties and candidates. This is the first time elections are becoming a people’s movement in itself and political parties are being forced to fight it on the agenda of development.”

With reference to Ramdev, he added, “Baba Ramdev has hopes and expectations from the BJP. My party will try its level best to live up to them. And, whatever expectations he has from me personally, I will try to fulfils those as well.”

The Congress spokesperson Jha charged that Ramdev’s statements were totally deplorable and it is tragic that all the BJP leaders supported these by their silence.” Pandit Nehru was not just India’s first prime minister, he was a global statesman who was the founder of the non-alignment movement in the world. He is respected figure all over the world. The BJP should answer if it endorses Ramdev’s statements,” he said.

Jha said that BJP’s is posturing to be the next party of governance at the centre and if it has to listen to the policy prescriptions of the so-called yoga expert on the economy then it speaks volumes for its own condition.” This only exposes the BJP’s inadequacy,” he added.
