Srinagar – In occupied Kashmir, the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani has said that the puppet Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, instead of learning lessons from his party’s humiliating defeat in the recently-held so-called Indian Parliamentary elections, continues to pursue oppressive policies.Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said that boycotting elections was the democratic right of every citizen but Kashmir was the only region in the world where the authorities deemed it to be a crime to be punished with arrests, torture and harassment.

“It seems that Omar Abdullah has not learned any lesson despite a humiliating defeat and he is still following the same policies responsible for his party’s debacle,” Gilani maintained.

Quoting a delegation of people from Baramulla town, the veteran Hurriyet leader said that the only police station of the town had been literally converted into an interrogation centre and dozens of youth detained there were being subjected to custodial violence. “When the families of detained youth visit their loved ones, they, too, are humiliated,” he deplored.

Syed Ali Gilani expressed serious concern over the continued illegal detention of Hurriyet leader, Amir Hamza, and his shifting to an unknown location from Bandipora police station. He condemned the unlawful imprisonment of Hurriyet leaders, Showkat Ahmad Hakeem and Javed Ahmad Falahi.

The veteran leader also condemned the detention of Abdul Razak Dar of Bijbehara in place of his son, Sabzar Ahmad, a Hurriyet activist. He demanded immediate and unconditional release of all illegally detained Hurriyet leaders and activists.
