Kejriwal to BJP: Stop playing cheap politics with issues affecting people of Delhi

New Delhi – Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal has,in a letter to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh urged the BJP to stop playing its cheap brand of politics with crucial issues affecting the people of Delhi.

He also questioned the BJP for saying that it is ready to offer issue-based support to the AAP, and added that the latter would like to know from the BJP on what issues it is ready to extend support, and on what issues it is not ready to extend support.

Following is the English version of the letter that was written in Hindi:

To,

Mr. Rajnath Singh

National President, BJP,

Dear Mr. Rajnath Singh,

BJP leaders Nitin Gadkari and Vijay Goel, who were in charge of the party’s campaign for the Delhi State Assemblty elections, have said that if the AAP asks the BJP for support, the BJP is ready to give issue-based support. These statements have been made before several times. We have not asked the BJP for support.

The birth and creation of the AAP took place because of the Congress’ and BJP’s corrupt, criminal and communal brand of politics. The people of the nation have stood up against this corruption by creating their own party, and are determined to raise their voices. In this instance, how can the AAP join hands with the Congress or the BJP?

The BJP has said that it is ready to give “issue-based support”. The AAP wants to know on what issues is the BJP ready to extend support. For the people of Delhi, there are significant and big issues that has left them frustrated and disappointed.

In the 15 years that the Congress has been in power, instead of solving the problems that exist, it has increased the misery of the people manifold in several areas.

In the seven years that the BJP has been in charge and control of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), they have robbed its coffers threadbare.

The question that arises is that in such circumstances, on what basis can the BJP offer, let alone discuss extending issue-based support to the AAP?

Today in this country, politics is being used as a medium to grab power. Every party, without exception, is doing this. Politicians are willing to give up their principles, and conscience for the sake of power. They are least bothered about the issues affecting the people.

We have not entered politics to gain power. We are commoners, small people, horribly affected and saddened by coruption and the price rise. We want solutions to our problems. We want the BJP to give us its clear-cut stand on each of the issues that the AAP has raised.

Our party is based on the principle of truth and transparency. We have, therefore, placed this letter in the public domain. Whatever reply we get from you, that too, will be placed in the public domain. We will then ask the people what they think and to give direction to the AAP accordingly.

We demand that every answer of the BJP be substantive and detailed. We are not interested in receiving vague replies or commitments such has : ” We support your view on this” or, “When it comes up in the Assembly, we will reveal our stand”.

It is sad that the BJP is playing politics with issues affecting the people. On the one hand, your national leaders are giving AAP sound and good advice, and on the other, these very same leaders are saying that we are in political cahoot with the Congress. This abysmal brand of politics reflects very badly on the BJP.

We look forward to your reply.
