Ahead of winter session of Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoped that the session will be fruitful and praised positive role played by opposition in smooth functioning of Parliament in last session.

Narendra Modi said, “Just like the last session, I expect the same cooperation this time too. The winter session of the Parliament is starting today, good work for the nation will happen in a cool state of mind.”

He further added, ” People have given us the huge mandate of running the government, but everyone who sits in the Parliament has this responsibility of running the nation.”

The government will move 37 new Bills for introduction and taking up pending Bills for consideration and passing during the Winter session of Parliament. New bills to be introduced include Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Ordinance 2014, amendments to theArbitration and Conciliation Act, Motor Vehicles Act, Negotiable Instruments Act, Textile Undertakings (Nationalisation) Laws (Amendment and Validation) Ordinance 2014.

63 bills already introduced are pending before Parliament, which incudes The Waqf Properties (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Bill, 2014, The Human Immunodeficiency Virus And Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (Prevention And Control) Bill, 2014, The Right of Persons with Disabilities Bill, 2014, The Drugs and Cosmetics (Amendment) Bill, 2013, The Merchant Shipping (Second Amendment) Bill, 2013, The Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Bill, 2013 and The Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Bill, 2013.

An all-party meeting was called to discuss the agenda for the Winter Session of Parliament, ahead of the session.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Samajwadi party (SP) skipped the all-party meet convened by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu termed the meet as fruitful and meaningful.

“We had a very fruitful and meaningful meeting with all party leaders in both the houses of parliament. Twenty six political parties, forty leaders were present in the meeting expect Samajwadi and Trinamool; all most all political parties were present. The government has given a list of bills which we want to take up in this session of parliament,” said Nadu.

Parliament would today for a month-long session in which the government is confident of passing legislation to allow more foreign investment in the insurance industry, despite hostile opposition parties. Other bills, including labour and land reform, will face stiff opposition.
