The Supreme Court on Monday asked lawyer-activist Prashant Bhushan to reveal the source of his information on the guest list at CBI chief Ranjit Sinha’s residence.

The apex court asked Bhushan to give the name of the whistleblower in a sealed envelope and directed its registry to keep all documents and affidavits filed by the CBI director in sealed cover and deposit it with Secretary General for safe custody.

The CBI director questioned the very existence of the diary and authenticity of its contents before SC. He said 90 percent of entries in the register are forged, but some might be genuine.

Last week Bhushan had submitted the guest list to the court in a sealed envelope without revealing where he got them from.

Sinha in his affidavits rejected the claims made by Bhushan’s NGO Centre for Public Interest Litigation. He accused the NGO of giving false evidence and making false allegations on oath. He also said that the Supreme Court should direct the registration of a case against CPIL for giving false evidence.

Sinha also said that communication between the CBI director and director of prosecution is privileged and cannot be used without the consent of the CBI director or director of prosecution.
