The Shiv Sena on Wednesday sharply attacked prime minister Modi over the border firing saying he should focus on stopping Pakistan’s atrocities and not on Maharashtra politics.

Accusing the prime minister of wrong priorities, an editorial in the Sena mouthpiece Saamna said Pakistan was firing continuously on the Indian side because the government was not taking any firm steps.

Keeping Modi busy in election rallies across the state while he is most needed at the Centre is like undermining the national security of India, the Shiv Sena said.

Modi has been continuously campaigning in poll-bound Maharashtra and Haryana over the last few days, addressing as many as 4-5 rallies a day.

“Whether a 56-inch chest can save the country or not is debatable. But if you have the will to protect your country, then anyone can do it,” the Sena said taking a jibe at Modi.

It added that it was pity that Indian villagers across the bordering areas have to take shelter in safer places to protect themselves from the onslaught of the Pakistani Rangers.

“It is not only our people whose life is threatened by the Pakistanis, even their homes are being destroyed by the Pakistani onslaught. Houses as far as four kilometres away from the border have been badly affected by the continuous firing.

So far seven persons have been killed and nearly 70 injured in the ceasefire violations by Pakistan since October 1 with over 16,000 people migrating to safer areas.
