London - News Corporation chairman Rupert Murdoch will unveil a new Sunday edition of the top-selling British tabloid The Sun next weekend.
News Corporation chief executive Tom Mockridge told the staff at the embattled tabloid that the
widely-anticipated 'The Sun on Sunday' will be launched on Sunday, February 26.
In an email to staff, Mockridge said Murdoch would be staying in London to oversee the launch, the Telegraph reports.
"Rupert Murdoch said during his visit on Friday that a new Sunday title would be published 'very soon' - and that is a week from today. Rupert will be staying in London to oversee the launch," Mockridge said.
"We will have to act quickly over the coming days. This is our moment. I am sure every one of us will seize the opportunity to pull together and deliver a great new dawn for The Sun this Sunday," he added.
According to the report, the news of the launch was also announced on the front page of The Sun under the headline "The Sun Next Sunday".
There were no details of any appointments for the Sun on Sunday, but Victoria Newton, the former showbiz correspondent of The Sun newspaper, has been widely tipped to be the editor of upcoming tabloid.
