Sacks with British flag to be used to send aid

Monday - Jun 25, 2012, 07:18pm (GMT+5.5)

London -  A four-year ban on the use of the British flag has been waived, and sacks emblazoned with the Union Jack will now be used to distribute aid worth over eight billion pounds abroad.

The ban was imposed by the previous Labour government after officials said it was "too colonial" and could upset people over the world, The Sun reported.

Secretary of State for International Development Andrew Mitchell removed the ban, and has brought out a new logo that has the flag and the words "UK Aid - from the British people".

The earlier logo carried the British government crest.

The daily said designing the old symbol cost the government over 97,000 pounds in 2008, while the new one was done at no cost on a ministry computer.
