Mumbai -  Tata Motor Tuesday announced that Karl Slym has been appointed the managing director of the company, India's biggest truck and bus maker.

Slym is expected to take over Tata Motor on Oct 1 and will lead all operations of Tata Motor in India and international markets, including South Korea, Thailand, Spain, Indonesia, South Africa.

Jaguar-Land Rover will, however, continue to be managed independently.

Slym succeeds P.M. Telang, who superannuated from the company in June this year.

Tata Motor reported a 3.6 percent fall in sales for the quarter ended June 2012.

An alumnus of Stanford University and a Sloan Fellow, Slym has been the executive vice president and board member, SGMW Motors, China, a joint venture with General Motors.

Prior to this, he was president, managing director and board member of GM in India.
