Johannesburg - Social network site Facebook has updated its application for Apple iPhone and iPad to make it faster for people to access the social networking site through their mobiles and tablets.
The firm has launched a new app, which is a major update to the Facebook for iOS.
Facebook product manager Mick Johnson said the main focus of the update is to offer better performance.
"We kept the visual layout pretty much the same. The focus of this was performance," news24 quoted Johnson, as saying.
Johnson said those using the app on Apple devices would be able to perform many functions "twice as fast" including opening the application, scrolling through their newsfeed and opening a photo.
The new version of the app for iPad will also allow users to create a 'timeline' which can be done on Facebook in other versions.
According to the report, the Facebook 5.0 app will be compatible with versions 4.3 and newer of the Apple mobile operating system.
