Gujarat to build expressway soon

Ahmedabad, March 20 (IANS) Gujarat will build it's first expressway between Ahmedabad and Bhavnagar at a cost of Rs.2,200 crore to provide superfast road connectivity to Special Investment Region.
The investment region is coming up enroute at Dholera, an ancient port-city in Gulf of Khambhat, 30 km away from Dhandhuka village of Ahmedabad district.
According to Roads and Buildings Minister Anandiben Patel, the over 150 km expressway will ensure superfast road connectivity for movement of both human and freight traffic.
"In the first phase we will broaden the road over the next two years, simultaneously completing the land acquisition and the mapping for the expressway," she said.
Patel said the state availed a Rs.1,800 crore loan from the World Bank for upgradation of 1,856 km of roads between 2002 to 2007 and "was now ready with a new plan of Rs.2,100 crore for further assistance to improve road connectivity".
"In 2010-11, six laning work will be taken upon 185 km at the cost of Rs.1,584 crore and four laning of 646 km at at the cost of Rs.5,410 crore to provide improved road connectivity to the ports ringing the coastal areas of Okha, Navlakhi, Dahej, Jhakhau, Mundra, Sutrapada, Naliya, Jhakhau, Rajula and Jaffrabad," she said.
