New Delhi (IANS) - Union New and Renewable Energy Minister Farooq Abdullah Monday gave Rs.50 lakh from his Member of Parliament Local Area Development fund (MPLAD) for relief work in the  flood-ravaged Leh region of Jammu and Kashmir.

The former chief minister has donated the maximum permissible amount from the MPLAD scheme for the relief and rehabilitation of the flood-hit in Leh.

The minister has also requested the authorities to keep him informed about the sanction and implementation of the works there.

Flash floods triggered by a cloud burst Aug 6 devastated large parts of Leh, the Ladakh region's largest town. At least 183 people were killed and 200 people are still missing.
