Karachi - Former Pakistan coach Waqar Younis has admitted that he was not happy with the policies of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) regarding the authority and power given to him.
Waqar had stepped down as Pakistan’s head coach after the Zimbabwe tour in September, citing personal and health reasons.
“My idea is that the coach should be able to finalise the playing eleven, but in Pakistan cricket, this is not the way the system works,” the Dawn quoted Waqar, as saying.
Pakistan’s chief selector Mohsin Hassan Khan has been appointed the interim coach for the ongoing series against Sri Lanka, while the board is in the process of appointing a full time coach.
Waqar, who is presently working as a commentator in the Pakistan-Sri Lanka series in the UAE, said that his successor should preferably be someone from within the country, not a foreigner.
“I would prefer to have a local coach simply because he is more capable of communicating with the players and knowing how they work,” he said.
“The advantage of having a local coach is that he already knows Pakistan cricket and how the system works here,” he added.
