New Delhi - British royals Prince William and his fiancee Kate Middleton will receive a special wedding gift from India - an artificial silk sari and a sherwani from the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India.
The royal wedding is scheduled for Friday at the Westminster Abbey in London.
The fabric used to create the two garments resembles raw silk, said a press statement.
"All animals, from cows to silkworms, share the will to live and be pain-free. With all the beautiful cruelty-free materials available, everyone can have a wardrobe that's fit for royalty without hurting anyone," said Poorva Joshipura, chief functionary of PETA India.
According to the animal welfare organisation, approximately 1,500 worms are killed to produce just 100 grams of silk. So, PETA India suggests that people use art or artificial silk as an alternative.
