New Delhi - Designer Anuradha Ramam, who extensively uses handblock and traditional weaves in her collection, has launched her ethic collection targeting modern women who seek to go the extra mile.

"Since the last 10 years I am working with ikkat weaves in pure silk and cottons and this time also I have used materials like ikkats, handblock printed tussars, discharge printed silks, gold printed raw silk and abstract kantha embroidery to tie the dresses together," Ramam told IANS.

She offers anarkali kurtas, skirts, stoles and shawls in bold and vibrant colours.

"The colours varies from red, green, robin blue, lemon yellow, orange and purple. All the designs are unpredictable and extraordinary. I have also tried using lot of surface texturization to add modernity to the garment. Gold prints, aari embroidery, appliques, mirror embroidery and kutchi embroidery on silks and cottons are some of the highpoints of the wardrobe," she added.

"My designs are created essentially to cater the requirements of modern women, who are self-sufficient with a mind of her own. Women who are proud to be who they are and are happy and passionate about life and living," she added.

Anuradha, who grew up in Haldia in West Bengal and shifted base to the capital after her marriage, believes that by relying on hand spun fabrics, she is bridging the gap between older and younger generation.

"I'm definitely trying to build bridges between them, so if a girl wants an ikat skirt with kantha work or a halter top with Kutch embroidery, I'll give it to her," she said.

The collection is available at the designer's boutique here starting from Rs.3,500.
