Tom Cruise `begged` Katie Holmes to join him for 50th b’day celebrations

London -  Tom Cruise begged Katie Holmes to fly to Iceland to celebrate his 50th birthday, on Tuesday, but she rejected his last-ditch attempt to save their marriage, it has been revealed.

A source told Us magazine, that the snub – shortly before their split became public – sparked a blazing row over the phone.

Reports reveal that Tom accused Katie, 33, of being heartless but she insisted the relationship was over.

“He begged her to go to Iceland for one last try at reconciliation. She refused and a huge fight ensued,” the mirror quoted a source as telling the magazine.

The report also said that the 33-year-old felt as though she was in horror film ‘Rosemary’s Baby’ – in which Satan impregnates a woman with the help of a cult.

The actress is thought to be desperate to stop Scientologist Tom from allowing their six-year-old daughter, Suri, to become heavily involved in his controversial religion.

Although the Mission Impossible actor was aware that things were tense and severely estranged with Holmes, "he was confident he could talk her out of it and keep her with him," the source

said.

Holmes filed for divorce from her husband of five years, last Thursday, and is seeking sole legal custody of daughter Suri.
 
After Holmes rejected his request to try to save their marriage, Tom reportedly spent his birthday flying home to California from Iceland where he has been filming.
 
“Tactically we can’t say where Tom will file a divorce case and if he’ll be seeking joint custody of Suri,” his lawyer, Bret Fields, said.

“We are letting the other side play the media until they wear everyone out and then we’ll have something to say.

“It’s not Tom’s style to do this publicly. He is really sad about what’s happening,” he added.
