BMC identifies 100 plots for Madhuri Dixit's dance academy

Mumbai - Even our civic officials are not immune to the charms of Madhuri Dixit-Nene.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has identified 100 plots in the western suburbs to help the actor realise her dream project — a dance academy.

“We have received the proposal from Dixit and we will help her,” said Rahul Shewale, civic standing committee chairman.

According to sources, Dixit had discussed the project with Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackarey during the inaugural function of virtual classrooms of civic schools last year, and he had advised her to send in a formal proposal to the BMC.

“She promptly submitted the proposal to mayor Sunil Prabhu and Shewale,” said a Sena functionary.

Subsequently, Prabhu and Shewale asked the education department and estate department to look for suitable locations and they identified at least 100 plots between Dahisar to Bandra.

Though civic officials claim to have not received a formal application from the actor, they said it will not give her plots reserved for schools. However, speculations are on that as the purpose is of ‘learning dance’, Dixit can avail such a plot.

“We will not give her premises allotted for a school as we don’t have any such policy in place. But if the actor wants to teach dance to civic students, she would be allowed to do in our schools. But outside students will not be allowed on the premises,” said Mohan Adtani, additional municipal commissioner.

Recently, Marathi actor Prashant Damle had sought a plot for a drama academy. The Shiv Sena had agreed to help him too.
