Daily soaps? No way, says Ranvijay

New Delhi -  Veejay-turned-actor Ranvijay Singh, who has tried his hand at acting in both Hindi and Punjabi films, says he does not want to do daily soaps.

“I don't want to do daily soaps and get typecast. After doing a particular role audiences recognise you as that character. Serials give a fixed identity to the actor and viewers take time to  accept them in other roles,” Ranvijay told IANS.

The 29-year-old came to the limelight in 2003 after winning the first season of popular reality show MTV “Roadies” and he has been closely associated with the channel after that.

Six years later, he started his film journey as a supporting actor with the 2009 release “Toss: A Flip Of Destiny”, but the film did not do well. In the same year, he did “London Dreams”, an  average film.

He got noticed in Vipul Shah's “Action Replayy” where he played Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's friend and, reminiscing his experience with the former beauty queen, he said: “Dancing with  Aishwarya in the film has been one of the best experiences that I will always cherish. It will be the most memorable.”

The actor, who also featured in Punjabi movies like “Dharti” and “Taur Mittran Di”, played the male lead in Nagesh Kukunoor's “Mod”.

Be it anchoring or acting, he enjoys doing both.

“I maintain a good balance between an anchor and acting. When I act in films, I am playing a character and when I am anchoring, I be myself,” said Ranvijay, who has hosted “Roadies” and  other shows like “Stuntmania” and “Splitsvilla” on MTV.

The fitness freak, who hails from an army background, stays away from gyms and relies on sports to keep himself fit.

“I don't like to go to the gym. For me, it is playing sports that help me keep fit and fine. Cycling is the best way to stay fit. Also bicycles have a plus-point, they don't need much parking space  which is a problem in cities like Mumbai and Delhi,” said Ranvijay, who is a Delhi University graduate.

He is now ready to do some action onscreen in his next film directed by Kukunoor.
