Vishakapatnam - The uncertainty in weather conditions is worrying fishermen of Vishakapatnam, as it would result in a poor catch this season.
The fishing season begins on May 31 and mechanized boats are all set for their journey. However, unpredictability of the monsoons is hampering their preparations.
According to the Fisheries Department, the catch can be predicted only after the first voyage is completed.
Out of the 600 mechanized boats, half will start their journey when the fishing ban is lifted.
"So far, there is no proper monsoon, so when the monsoons occur, we may have a better catch. Since there is no proper rainfall, we will not get a good catch and if the ban extends for another 15 days, we may get a better catch," said S.K.Naik, Director, Fisheries Survey of India.
"The fishermen are hoping that they should definitely get a good catch, they are preparing for their voyage, they have already loaded the ice and they will probably sail midnight on May 31 to catch the fish outside. The resources are definitely going to help them. Let us hope that they do better in this season," said P.C.Apparao, President Of Andhra Pradesh Mechanised Boat Operators Welfare Association.
There has been no fishing since the last 45 days but the mechanized boats fishermen will begin their operations from May 31 onwards.
