'Rebel' Man U fans upbeat on 'player splurge possibility' following proposed flotation

London - Manchester United fans have welcomed the prospect of team manager Sir Alex Ferguson having more money to spend on players.

The fans are expected to have even more to celebrate if a proposed flotation on the New York Stock Exchange paves the way for the Glazer family to sell the club.

"If it turns out the vast majority of the proceeds are used to pay off the debt that is certainly something we would welcome," The Sun quoted Duncan Drasdo, Chief executive of the Manchester United Supporters' Trust which has long opposed the Glazers' ownership.

United confirmed that they want to sell shares in a new holding company, registered in the secretive tax haven of the Cayman Islands, to reduce their 423 million dollar debts, which would allow Fergusson to splash more of United's income on transfers.
