Hamas man's murder suspects went to US, Israel: police

Dubai, March 1 (DPA) Some of the suspects in the January murder of a Hamas militant in his Dubai hotel room left the city-state for the US and Israel, Dubai's police chief said in remarks published Monday.

"Some of them went to America and others to Israel," Dahi Khalfan Tamim told Gulf News, speaking after Dubai police announced the results of a forensic examination of Mahmoud al-Mabhouh's corpse.

Dubai police said they had concluded that al-Mabhouh had been drugged with the general anesthetic succinylcholine, then smothered to death.

Tamim has earlier said it was virtually certain that Israel's intelligence agency, Mossad, dispatched the team of 26 suspected killers to assassinate al-Mabhouh, one of the founders of Hamas' armed wing.

In remarks published Saturday, Tamim called on Meir Dagan, the head of the Mossad, to "be a man" and admit that the spy agency had killed al-Mabhouh.

Israel has said there is "no reason to assume" the Mossad was behind the killing.
