JEDDAH – Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Emir of Makkah Region, was on Sunday briefed on the different phases of Haramain train project.
Dr. Jubara Al-Suraiseri, Minister of Transport, briefed the Emir on the 448-km train project that will link Makkah with Madina via Jeddah.
The train project has five stations along its route: Makkah, Jeddah, King Abdul Aziz International Airport, King Abdullah Economic City and Madina.
Al-Suraiseri said King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, has issued directives to finance the project from the investment funds in the Kingdom.

The minister noted that pilgrims, visitors and Umrah performers will be able to use the train between Makkah and Madina by 2012. Arrangements are under way among 21 government and private sectors in this respect, he said.
Underscoring the importance of the railway project, Prince Khaled said the Kingdom is witnessing implementation of projects in the various domains. The meeting was attended by a number of senior officials. – SPA
