JEDDAH – New environment friendly products are on display at an exhibition organized on the sidelines of the Gulf Environment Forum (GEF) that opened at Jeddah Hilton here on Sunday.
Averda Company, a leading environmental service company in the Middle East, has showcased a modern garbage bin made of steel. The bin is divided into four sections – paper, plastic and cans, glass and general waste.
“This is considered a smart bin as it has a special system that could be linked with ID of the users. It could be used to gain scientific statistics about both the kind and the quantity of garbage,” Waleed Shaar, spokesman and chief operations officer of Averda Company told Saudi Gazette.
In order to have an optimal utilization of this bin, he said, a campaign should be launched to create awareness among the community on its uses and functions. It is only after that, he said, the municipality should be allowed to put it on the streets.
Gulf International Trading Group has produced a new anti-fire glass made by special materials like pure gel, thick glass laminated with a savage compound. It is 100 mm glass manufactured with different layers.
Khaled Al-Midfa, chairman and CEO of the company, who was one of the main speakers at the forum, said the anti-fire glass is designed to arrest the spread of flames in case of a fire.
Al-Midfa, during his participation in the forum sessions, said that the recycle of sewage water could be useful in helping industrial areas in the Gulf countries. If Gulf countries, he said, use shared data base about air pollution, they will be able to fix the problem soon especially in industrial cities.
The GEF, opened by Prince Turki Bin Nasser Bin Abdul Aziz; President of the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment (PME) Sunday, is the first environment and sustainable development conference in the region with the support of both United Nations Development Program and United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).
Dr. Habib Al-Hiber, Regional Director of UNEP, said that the impact of bad behaviors on the environment created the climate change. “If we want to live in good environment, we have to control human activities in addition to provide suitable and healthy products,” he said. – SG
