'I feel irritated when I don't workout'

'I feel irritated when I don't workout'...says Tennis player Somdev Devvarman, who runs for 3 to 5 miles and loves lifting weights.

My exercise regime
I work six to seven days a week and sometimes even twice a day. It's totally subjective depending whether I'm in the midst of a tournament or not. My workout session last anywhere between one to one-and-a-half hours and a mix of cardio and strength training. I run for three to five miles and then move on to doing weights. Though cardio is a must, I prefer doing weights. During tournaments, I cutback on the duration but maintain the intensity of my workouts.

My problem areas
Luckily, I don't have a problem of putting on weight because of my fixed workout routine and genes. However, I have a tendency to lose weight if I don't workout regularly. I don't focus on having six-pack abs but rather focus on building my core strength. When one serves in a game of tennis, the core muscles in the body are utilised. My trainer makes me perform a variety of core exercises.

My strengths
When you're playing Tennis, you have to be nimble. I have strong legs and I think that's my strength. Working out has become such a routine for me that I feel irritated when I don't workout. I can't sit idle. As a kid, I played different sports including cricket and football. And now, I occasionally enjoy a game of football.

My diet
I'm a non-vegetarian who enjoys vegetarian fare and my diet is a healthy mix of carbs and proteins. I eat a lot of food since I also burn a lot of calories. I relish eating pastas and chicken dishes and I love my potato chips. I reward myself with my favourite foods but am careful about eating within limits. I don't have any health supplements but have a lot of vitamin C to strengthen my immune system.
