London - Indulging in excessive drinking proved fatal for about 9,000 British people in one year alone, a new study has revealed.
Office for National Statistics figures revealed that drink-related deaths went from 8,664 to 8,790 – a rise of 126 – between 2009 and 2010, the Daily Express reported.
According to the critics, 24-hour drinking, bargain booze and binge drinking fuel the crisis.
Among men, the number of deaths went up by 175 from 5,690 in 2009 to 5,865 in 2010, accounting for two-thirds of all UK booze deaths.
But women’s drink deaths cut down by 49 from 2,974 to 2,925.
