Abbottabad - An inquiry commission set up by the Pakistan Government for probing the Osama bin Laden debacle has recorded the statements of at least 30 people, including senior officials.
Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has constituted the commission for investigation into the presence of bin Laden in Abbottabad and the unilateral US operation that killed the world’s most wanted
terrorist on May 2. The inquiry commission spent a busy day at the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa House during its three-day visit Abbottabad.
The commission, headed by Justice (retired) Javed Iqbal, recorded the statements of at least 30 people, including Deputy Inspector General of Police, Hazara Range Dr Naeem, District Coordination Officer of Torghar, Fareed Khan, 13 Khassadar personnel and at least 12 employees of the Revenue Department, The News reported.
Two Pakistan Army officers- Colonel Arshad and Colonel Khalid- also appeared before the commission.
Earlier, members of the commission visited Torghar district and inspected the Osama bin Laden compound. They were also given briefing by the Commandant of the Pakistan Military Academy at Kakul and other officials at the site.
Talking to journalists at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House on Tuesday night, Justice Iqbal said that at least 500 people had approached the commission, wanting to appear before it, and he had assured them complete security and protection.
He said that eyewitnesses and any other persons who want to record their statement, should come to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House, since their statements would help the commission prepare a more authentic and comprehensive report.
