There is no Tibet issue, says China

Beijing -  There is nothing like a "Tibet issue", a Chinese official told EU representatives.

Zhu Weiqun, Executive Vice Minister of the United Front Work Department of the Chinese Communist Party, said this in Brussels, People's Daily reported Thursday.

Zhu said the socialist system had been established in Tibet for over half a century.

"We will give full play to the system so that more Tibetans can benefit from it and lead a relatively comfortable life," he said.

Zhu answered questions concerning the Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama, who lives in India, human rights in Tibet, and incidents of self immolation in that province.

He said both Tibet and Taiwan "are inalienable parts of China".

The difference, he said, was that the unification with Taiwan hasn't been realized.

Tibet "was and is a region under China's sovereignty with national autonomy", he added.

China considers the Dalai Lama, who fled his homeland to India in 1959, a "splittist".
