Hindus want immediate completion of Gypsy memorial in Berlin
Saturday - Jan 14, 2012, 02:51pm (GMT+5.5)
Nevada (US) - Hindus have urged Germany to urgently complete the Berlin memorial to Roma (Gypsies) and Sinti, which was reportedly approved in 1992. Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that full-scale work needed to start on this memorial immediately as it was reportedly neglected and in a limbo. Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, also criticized the German policy of deporting Roma children who were born in Germany. It was irresponsible on the part of Germany to deport them to Kosovo where they reportedly faced excessive poverty. Rajan Zed stressed that Roma upliftment should be the first priority in Germany and Europe as their maltreatment was a dark stain on the face of the continent. It was simply immoral to continue staying apathetic and silent spectator ignoring Roma plight, who reportedly regularly faced social exclusion, racism, substandard education, hostility, joblessness, rampant illness, inadequate housing, lower life expectancy, unrest, living on desperate margins, stereotypes, mistrust, rights violations, discrimination, marginalization, appalling living conditions, prejudice, human rights abuse, etc.
