At least 14 dead in Peru floods

Lima -  At least 14 people died in floods triggered by torrential rains in Peru, authorities said.

Heavy rains battered the country for the past two days.

Thousands of people were left homeless, officials said Thursday.

The San Martin province has been the hardest hit.

Rains have caused rivers to overflow.

Transportation links to many towns in the country's 22 provinces were cut off.

The government has so far provided about 92 tonnes of emergency aid.
