Washington - Adviser to the US commanders in Afghanistan and retired Army General Jack Keane has urged the Obama administration to change its strategy and target the Taliban leaders settled in Pakistan, like it did in case of the al Qaeda militants.
Keane said that the US should use drones and other tactics employed to kill al Qaeda operatives over the past 10 years, to strike against the Taliban.
“We kill them. We use drones to kill them, just like we did al Qaeda,” the Express Tribune quoted Keane, as saying.
Keane further said that America’s main enemy was Taliban leaders, but “ironically” they continue to operate from Pakistan without any problem.
“If we don’t start targeting the Taliban leadership now … the risk is much too high in terms of our ability to sustain the successes that we’ve had. We cannot let that Afghan Taliban leadership that lives in Pakistan continue to preside over this war and recruit and provide resources,” he added.
