London - At least three people were killed and 15 others injured after dozens of gunmen attacked a jail in southern Philippines to free a prisoner, police said Monday.
The incident occurred when at least 50 gunmen stormed a jail in Kidapawan city in North Cotabato province late Sunday night, the BBC reported.
According to the police, the attackers were from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and trying to free a leader.
The rebel group, however, denied such a claim.
The attack was launched at 10.00 p.m. Sunday when gunmen fired a series of grenades at the jail's main gate. At least 15 civilians were injured in the attack.
