Seemingly unfazed at being ousted from the Asian Athletics Association, scam-tainted Suresh Kalmadi on Monday said losing the presidential re-election bid to Qatar’s Dahlan Jumaan Al-Hamad has actually given him a chance to work at the “grassroots” level.
“I have no issues today and I congratulate Mr Al-Hamad for being elected as President. I am rather relieved that I will be able to work at the grassroots level in athletics,” Mr. Kalmadi said after losing the vote during the ongoing AAA Congress in Pune.

Gilani says early elections in Pakistan can’t be ruled out

Islamabad - Pakistan Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has said that early elections in Pakistan cannot be ruled out, and added that the issue could be discussed after the Senate elections in March and the presentation of budget in May.

“I do not rule it out,” The Express Tribune quoted Gilani, as saying.

Earlier, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman had said that his party wants early and fair elections in Pakistan.

Expressing his reservations for the completion of computerized voters' lists, Rehman said that the lists would not be completed by May.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan had also demanded early election under the new and transparent voters’ lists, and added that his party would avoid alliances with political forces whose leaders’ assets were abroad.

“We support early polls. However, we want the general elections are held under new and transparent voter lists,” he added.
