Israeli PM Netanyahu in denial over taking lavish privately paid trips

New York -  Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly been questioned by the country's state comptroller over allegations of taking lavish and privately paid trips abroad while serving in public office.

According to an ABC News report, Netanyahu was questioned earlier this week, but news of the meeting did not hit Israeli news until Friday.

This is the first time Netanyahu has been questioned about the allegations. The comptroller is said to have begun the probe last year following an expose on Israel's Channel 10 alleging that, between his first and second terms as prime minister, Netanyahu and his wife enjoyed expensive trips and meals paid for by wealthy associates.

Netanyahu, who currently on an official visit of Canada and the United States, has denied the allegations and has filed a libel suit against Channel 10.
