Baghdad - Unidentified gunmen shot dead five members of a family in an Iraqi town, an interior ministry source said Sunday.

Gunmen broke into the house of a bodyguard of the mayor of Tarmiyah town, some 30 km north of Baghdad and shot him dead along with his wife, sister and two daughters. The incident occurred after midnight, Xinhua quoted the source as saying requesting anonymity.

The gunmen then planted bombs in the house and blew it up before fleeing, the source added.
