London -  A 54-year-old former Guatemala soldier has been sentenced to 6,060 years in prison for the massacre of 201 people 30 years ago.

Pedro Pimentel Rios was extradited from the US last year for his role in the 1982 slaughter in the Central American country, The Sun reported Tuesday.

Former special forces soldier Rios was one of the accused in the "Dos Erres" massacre in the northern Guatemala hamlet.

Dozens of soldiers ransacked the village, searched homes for weapons and systematically slaughtered men, women and children.

According to a court, soldiers bludgeoned villagers with sledgehammers, threw them down a well and raped women and girls before killing them.
